Tami Crist Starkel – Bio & Blog

Where were you born and raised? I was born in Phoenix, Arizona on August 20 and I prefer to keep the year a secret for the time being. My brother on the other hand would like to announce it to the world. I am the third child in a line of three (My brother Rich Jr. being the OLDEST of the three). We have a sister in the middle who doesn’t sing with us. She currently lives in Washington State with her wonderful husband. I have lived in Arizona, Colorado, Washington and now Tennessee. We moved so much when I was a kid they used to ask us when went to new schools if my dad was in the military. Nope, my parents just liked to pack-up and move a lot.

What about Family – As of today I have been blessed with my Amazing husband John, and two sons Luke (age 16) who is now running sound for us and is often featured singing one of his songs during our concerts & Colby (age 15) a drummer who is now helping out with set-up and running the table with his cousin Val. Many people ask what about school? We are homeschooling both boys. Does anyone want to teach them for free? :)

What are your favorite places to eat on the road? I would have to say Mexican Food . But I also like Chili’s, Red Robin and Olive Garden (which is usually for special occasions).

What are your Interests and Hobbies? I guess you could say I am a computer junkie. No matter what it is about. I love learning new software, web design, graphics, games etc…. I love reading and I have started writing a book. I like making jewelry (and shopping for it), and I also enjoy songwriting but I have to admit making time to write is not always high on my priority list.

Do you have any pets? We have a redbone coonhound named Annie who has a mind of her own but a heart of gold. I figure if you live in the south you gotta have a hound right?

What is your musical history? We weren’t allowed to listen to Christian radio growing up. Only what was approved from the hymn book and we could only sing those songs in church or at someone’s house. When we went to a new church when I was 13 I remember hearing a Christian Song for the first time. My soul was so moved. I knew at that moment God wanted me to sing for Him the rest of my life. I turned to my mom and said that’s what I am going to do. From that day forward I took every opportunity I could to learn and sing for Him.

What is your personal testimony? I grew up attending a church that preached Sin and Hell every day of the week. From the time I was about the age 4 to the age of 9, every night I was sure the Lord would come again, I would be left behind and I would spend eternity in Hell.

When I was 9 years old on News Years Day I received Christ as my Savior. I don’t know if you noticed in that sentence that I didn’t say Lord and Savior. I realized that He had saved me from my sin but I didn’t understand Lordship until my teen years.

When I was 13 my parents were having major marriage issues as they turned from God to the world. Affairs, drugs, alcohol, and abuse became the norm in our home. One night the police came to our house and started to take my dad away in handcuffs. That night I got down on my knees and started crying out to God for my family. My relationship with God changed from one of just Savior to “Savior and Lord” as I saw that He wanted to be more than my Savior but my Father, Protector, Healer, Redeemer, and Comforter.

Praise the Lord my family has been restored and my parents are the example of God’s Grace.

He is my EVERYTHING!!!

What do you hope to see happen through The Crist Family? Dealing with Epilepsy most of my life, my desire is to see people encouraged. The great thing is that even though Christians might be physically failing we are not eternally failing. This is only temporary and we need to constantly remind ourselves that this is only a speck of time compared to the infinity that is our tomorrow. The infinity that we have to look forward to is perfection with our savior.

I love our new song “His Strength Is Perfect”. It starts out with the great words from Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” That is my goal, my ambition, not only for myself but also for others. To remember that HIS STRENGTH IS PERFECT.

Hi Tami, it good to sign on to your web site and see you again. It has been almost two years since I talked to you that night in Rock Hill,SC… I came up to your table and just melted from our conversation. remember I was bombed by your Beautiful smile that you showed everyone that night during the concert. Your face just glowed the love of Christ to everyone. Of all the singers, you are my favorite… now that Bass comes in a tight 2nd.
I would love to talk to you some more, but I am going to have to go for now. Hope to hear from an Angel soon.

What a blessing, is a understatement. To hear a family sing for the Lord, so nice ,friendly, down to earth, funny, loving, careing, and on top of this, to travel all over where your fans can hear your great singing, blows me away. Thank you for all you do to deliver the gospel in song. Knowing Brian Free, Bill Shivers, Derick, Jeremy, how yall travel makes me feel some what sad, but on the other hand, when the mikes get hot, somehow all the neg- melts away like snow, the blood of Christ is brought forth in song. I remember when the group traveled in a van, pulling a trailer full of your supplies. forgive my spelling, my wife knows i cant spell good, she would die if she knew i was typing this. well thanks, see you next time.

I do feel blessed beyond measure to see what God is allowing me to do with my family. And I am so thankful for people like you who help us remember that what we are doing matters and makes a difference. By the way, I have also not been gifted with the ability to spell. Praise the Lord for spell-check.

It’s good to hear from you. I’m doing good. I’m glad you blogged. We are on our way home. I am looking forward to a little rest. It’s been a long trip but a GREAT one. Our youngest son was not with us so I haven’t seen him for eight days and now he just called and asked to stay two more days so he could have a band jam session with some of the guys with the church in Kentucky where he is. Praise the Lord it is for a good reason. Still I miss him lots. I am glad you are doing well. Let me know how I can pray. I am sure that all the followers on my blog would love to pray as well. We are all about supporting each other. God Bless and I can’t wait to hear from you again. p.s. (there is a subscribe box at the bottom of the page if you want to get an email when I post a response to your answer)

Thank you Tami for our conversation at the picnic after your performance at First Baptist yesterday. I was thankful to find someone that understands what we are going through with our daughter, and how it is an ongoing struggle. Alot of people don’t get that. I talked to my daughter when we left the picnic, and she was so encouraged by your testimony. We pray that God will continue to bless your ministry, and hope to catch one of your concerts again someday (if you come back to PA).

I enjoyed our talk so much. It is such a blessing to connect with a sister in Christ and share with each other. The Lord is so faithful to give us what we need when we need it and sometimes that’s each other. I thank Him all the time for the many people that I have met that have blessed my life with conversations just like ours. He has always shown Himself faithful to me and I know His promises are true. I know that sometimes the trials don’t go away, but it’s the realization that we have someone leading the way through the battlefield to safety, on our behalf, that eases the weight off our shoulders. I can’t wait to meet again and see how you are all doing. God Bless! Tell your daughter hi for me. You are all in our prayers.

I was looking around to see your schedule and lo and behold I can say hi – “Hi.” I have your picture of the group walking the beach at Hilton Head on my board in my office. I look over at my board several times and day and when I see ya’ll or some of the others, I immediately send a prayer asking God to bless you, keep you safe, restore your souls (I started to write ‘soles’) that would mean more shoes, right. OK I got side tracked. That God will use ya’ll to sing Christ’s message of salvation right into people’s hearts.

You know just how much I love you and am thankful that you are in my life. The same with all the others too. What an inspiration you are to me. Really really why I fight my TBI and PTSD. You always sing the right song to me. Hope to see you soon.

Wow! I can’t believe you responded and so quickly. I like this. I love all of the Crist Family; but there was just a special connection with you for me. My brain won’t let me find the word I want to say; but that’s OK. You get the gist of it. Thank you so much for praying for me. It is nice to know that someone is lifting you to the attention of Christ and through Him to our Father. I have another dream – I got my dream when I recorded my first CD. I want to be able to combine speaking along with music. I have been working on several subjects. My latest one is about :”The Church of Thou Shalt Not.” Yes, there are light and funny things; but I go beyond all that to tell people that their walk with God isn’t anything to do with any church or any shall nots. It is about the freedom He gives us and we aren’t going to go to hell if we wear a piece of jewelry. Gotta get back to getting my notes done. No patients this afternoon. love, me

Dear Tami,

I heard you for the first time in person at Spartanburg, IN on July 3, 2011. I had just arrived back in my hometown to take care of my Mom, who has Alzheimer’s & Parkinson’s disease. It was a very daunting task in front of me, see I had left my family behind in the great Pacific Northwest & was planning on being in IN for three months. I had to place my Mom in a nursing facility, close down her home & go through all her earthly possessions & decide what was to be done with everything. I had two quick prayers that I prayed every morning, the first I can do all things Lord through you who gives me strength & the other was your strength is perfect, give me your strength. When I first heard your song, I cried!! God was good & answered my prayers & gave me the strength to go on. Thank you for confirming what the Lord did for me this summer through song. Welcome back to the Northwest next weekend, hope you have awesome concerts.

Thank you for your story. You just ministered to me. Hearing others and how the song and verse is applied in their lives reminds me of God’s sustaining power in my life. I am so glad His word is the same yesterday, today and forever. Not only has He given me strength through my past trials but He continues to do so. Just this weekend the same son I shared about who was in the accident, had a seizure while we were at a restaurant in Colorado. It has been an a difficult start to our tour but our first concert was filled with His hand of blessing and our son is doing well. I will be praying for you and your mom. I can’t imagine how difficult it has been for you. I hope we can see each other at a future concert and visit. God bless.

Hey there, Tami! Just got through reading your blog/bio & just wanted to say that I too have been raised up in church where they teach/preach about the coming of the Lord & if you do not know Him as your personal Lord & Saviour through a born-again experience (1 on1) with the Lord & having that spiritual heart transplant-figure of speech- such a blessing to know that you know the Lord & just to feel His presence anytime & He knows all our needs from our heart! I hope your son is ok & doing well & my husband (jeff) & I really enjoyed you & your family singing this past new years eve celebration @ Opryland Hotel! God bless all of you in serving the Lord through your singing/testifying/lifting Him up in songs & praises!! Hope to hear from you & let us know how everyone is doing, ok?

With all our love,
Sherry & Jeff

Thank you for your sharing with me. Everyone is doing well. My son is good right now but is in line for tests and doctor appointments. We are hopeful and know it is in Gods hands. We (The Crist Family) is in Norway right now. We have been here a couple days and will be here a few more. We love it and hope this will not be our last. Thank you for your words of encouragement and God bless you both.
